Press Release Body: New York, 10/20/08 - The blogging world is no stranger to conventions, conferences, expos and awards that celebrate its unique, varied online communities. But bloggers Sarah Morgan (www.Sarah-Morgan.com) and Jane Porricelli (www.MomGenerations.com/blogs/jane/) sensed something missing and set out to fill the void. The result? The 2009 Hot Blogger Calendar contest(www.HotBloggerCalendar.com).
The idea stemmed from a hottest blogger poll on Playboy.com (all female, of course), which Porricelli countered with a Hottest Male Blogger contest on her personal blog. After the enthusiastic response she received, Porricelli joined forces with Morgan to take the next step - putting together a Hot Blogger Calendar. Between August 18 and August 25, blog readers nominated their hot blogger picks - both male and female. The contest received 359 nominations and included tech bloggers, real estate bloggers, mommy bloggers, dad bloggers, celebrity bloggers, political bloggers, social media bloggers, style bloggers, PR bloggers, humor bloggers, sports bloggers, travel bloggers, shopping bloggers and business bloggers.
Then the voting began. From August 25 through September 1, readers voted for their one favorite male blogger and one favorite female blogger from the list of nominees. Of the 23,745 unique votes cast, 24 hot bloggers - 12 male and 12 female - emerged as the winners.
"Sarah and I were blown away by the response to the contest," says Porricelli. "In just two weeks we had over a million hits to our site, and we actually crashed the servers the night we opened up the voting!"
"We encouraged people to get creative in order to get votes, and they didn't disappoint," adds Morgan. "Some made YouTube videos, some wrote hilarious blog posts, some held raffles and at least one even solicited sponsors to donate to charity for each vote he received. We put all creative vote-getting schemes on the Hot Blogger Calendar blog so the competition could see what they were up against."
Porricelli and Morgan held a calendar photo shoot for the bloggers in Manhattan on October 5, with photographers Bill Wadman (http://www.billwadman.com/) and Meg Wachter (http://www.megwachterphoto.com/), and make-up artist Jillian Villafane (http://www.jillianvillafane.com/), offering their professional work.
The two 2009 Hottest Blogger Calendars (one with the 12 females, one with the 12 males) will be available for purchase in November, with a portion of proceeds donated to charity, making it the hottest feel-good gift for the holidays.
